The Women's sprint competition at the 2005 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was held over two days at ADT Event Center in Los Angeles, United States. 21 riders from 12 nations competed. The early rounds were raced on March 25, with the semifinals and finals held on March 26.
Victoria Pendleton won her first world title in this event, the first British woman to do so in any track cycling event since Beryl Burton in 1966.
The final for bronze saw Australian sisters Kerrie Meares and Anna Meares competing for the medal, with Anna eventually claiming victory. The Meares sisters had raced each other for gold in the Australian National Track Championships a month earlier, and Anna had also won on that occasion.
