Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Act, 2023 is an Act passed by the Uttar Pradesh Legislature to provide a legal framework for the establishment and functions of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission. The Act makes provisions for the selection of teachers and instructors, determination of vacancies, the selection process, and the conduct of the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test. The Act was enacted on 21 August 2023 and lays down the composition, powers, and duties of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission.
History Teacher recruitment in Uttar Pradesh was previously conducted through various commissions and agencies. Given the lack of uniformity, transparency, and timeliness in these processes, the state government decided to consolidate the functions of various recruitment agencies under a single commission.
The Uttar Pradesh government approved the establishment of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission in August 2023. The proposed commission was set up as a unified body for recruiting teachers in the higher, secondary, and basic education departments.
This was followed by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Act, 2023. The Act was enacted on August 21, 2023, and provides for the establishment, composition, powers, and selection process of the Commission.
The regulations of the Commission were notified in December 2023, after which the rules for the selection process for teacher and trainer recruitment were laid down.
Purpose and scope The Act aims to establish a unified system for the selection of teachers and instructors in the state. According to the Act, the Commission performs functions related to the selection of teachers and instructors for certain positions in non-government-aided colleges, secondary and higher secondary schools, schools under the Basic Education Board, Atal Residential Schools, and Industrial Training Institutes in the state. Additionally, the Commission is mandated to conduct the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test.
