The 1933 SAAFL season was the 19th season of the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL).

The season commenced on 29 April and concluded on 16 September.

An Australian Amateur Football Council was formed after an amateur sports club conference was held in Melbourne by the South Australian, Victorian, Western Australian and Tasmanian amateur football leagues. This would help deal with matters concerning the amateur status of footballers, the control of interstate matches, affiliation of junior leagues and details in regards to the interpretation of local rules and attitude to other bodies.

The S.A. Junior Amateur Football League, which is the S.A.A.F.L.'s junior body, was disbanded. This was after having received resignations at the annual meeting from Semaphore Central Juniors, Prince Alfred O.C., St. Peter's O.C., and King's O.C. The Junior Amateur League was intending to still operate with only four teams. Those teams being Kenilworth, Otiose, Goodwood, and Railways Institute.

University had amalgamated their B and C teams, to play in the Adelaide Students' Football Association as University B. University were joined by King's Old Collegians, Prince Alfred Old Collegians B and St. Peter's Old Collegians B. Colonel Light Gardens A and B, and Goodwood B both left to the new South Australian National Junior Football Association. Kingswood had folded at the end of 1932.

Semaphore Central Juniors renamed Exeter and joined the SAAFL proper.

The Amateur League Umpires' Association was formed.

The constitution was revised by a committee under chairman Jack Massey, which saw the introduction of life memberships. Nominated for life memberships were H.V. Millard (Secretary since 1922), Professor H. Darnley Naylor (President 1915-1926), Dr. F.S. Hone (President since 1927) and A.G. Donnell (Semaphore Central and state player). A sub-committee of Masset, F.L. Heritage (Umpires and Permit Committee) and C.G. Tideman was appointed to consider the nominations. They recommended the following:

that life memberships not be conferred on current office holders; that life memberships be conferred only on officers or delegates of the Amateur League or others who have rendered outstanding service; that only one life member be appointed at present, that person to be Darnley Naylor; that players' long service certificates be not proceeded with at the moment - it was a matter for the clubs to decide and their advice was sought.

The League introduced a new rule so that the umpires can order a player off of the field if they commit a breach of the rules. Then umpire is to then submit a report of this to the league.

At the end of the season, Flinders Park were suspended by the Amateur Football League. This was due to, in the A2 Challenge Match, spectators invading the playing field and several fights occurring. This had been reported and on Thursday, 21 September 1933, the tribunal determined, in the interests of amateur football, to expel Flinders Park from the league. Flinders Park to play in the United Church Football Association from the 1934 season.
