Gouripur Rajendra Kishore Government High School () is one of the oldest secondary educational institutions in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh District, Bangladesh. It was established on 10 July 1911 by the Zamindar of Gouripur, Brajendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury, and named after his father, Rajendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury. The school is commonly known as Gouripur R.K. Government High School.
History
The school was established on 10 July 1911 by Brajendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury, the fifth zamindar of the Gouripur Rajbari, on 11 acres of land. It was named in honour of his father, Rajendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury. Brajendra Kishore was a noted philanthropist and patron of education who contributed significantly to the development of academic institutions across Bengal.
The school was initially a private institution before being nationalized in 1991. It is reportedly one of several educational institutions founded by Brajendra Kishore, including Ishwarganj Bisweswari Government Pilot High School (1916) and Madhyanagar Bisweswari Public High School and College (1920).
Campus and architecture
The school is situated on approximately 11 acres of land in Gouripur town. The main academic building was constructed in the shape of the English letter 'E'.
The campus features a large historical pond named Ananta Sagar (), meaning "Endless Ocean". The pond was excavated on 3.5 acres of the school's own land and named after Anantabala Devi, wife of founder Brajendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury. The pond features a paved ghat with wide concrete stairs for public access.
In 2017, a public library was established on the campus, and in 2020, a mini-park was developed on the eastern bank of the pond by the Gouripur Municipality. A three-storey academic building was built in 2002, alongside newer vertical infrastructure updates.
Academic system
The school offers secondary education from Class VI to Class X under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Mymensingh. It operates as a boys' school with two sections in each class. According to the school's portal, approximately 625 students are enrolled. Female students have also been admitted since 2013. Faculty records and continuing-education activity are administered through the government's Teachers Portal, on which at least one serving assistant teacher at the school maintains a profile.
