The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has twice issued Official Declarations to clarify significant doctrinal issues.. Official Declaration 1 was added to the church's official scripture, Doctrine and Covenants, in 1908; Official Declaration 2 in 1981.Table of Contents of the Doctrine and Covenants, 1981 edition (current)."The New Publications of the Standard Works—1979, 1981" by Robert J. Matthews. Brigham Young University Studies. Vol. 22, No. 4 (Fall 1982). Accessed 7 June 2020.

Both declarations came in response to controversies surrounding church policies (polygamy and the race ban, respectively) although in neither case did the declaration explicitly repudiate the doctrine as understood,"Confronting and Condemning 'Hard Doctrine,' 1978–2013" by Matthew L. Harris. Mormon Studies Review, University of Illinois Press, Vol. 7 (2020). Accessed 7 June 2020. leaving decades to effect the full change the declarations proclaimed."Polygamy, Mormonism, and Me" by B. Carmon Hardy. Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, Vol. 41 No. 2 (Summer 2008), University of Illinois Press. Accessed 7 June 2020."History Lessons: Race and the LDS Church" by Max Perry Mueller. Journal of Mormon History, Vol. 41 No. 1 (January 2015), University of Illinois Press and the Mormon History Association. Accessed 7 June 2020.
