It was in the tradition of Ranchera films, popular during the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema.
Plot Chabela Vargas (Sofía Álvarez) is a rough-and-tumble, highly unconventional tomboy who runs her family ranch with an assertive masculine persona. Her traditional father, desperate to see his headstrong daughter settle down, aggressively orchestrates a marriage between Chabela and Carlos Millán (René Cardona), a visiting engineer who has recently arrived at the property to implement modern agricultural technologies. However, Lorenzo (Pedro Infante), Chabela's dedicated childhood companion and ranch employee, has secretly been unconditionally in love with her for years. Upon hearing false local rumors confirming Chabela's impending marriage to the high-society engineer, a deeply depressed Lorenzo abandons his job and flees the estate.
The dynamic changes entirely during the community's annual regional festival, where Chabela surprises the local ranchers by discarding her masculine work clothes to dress up as an elegant, high-society lady, instantly becoming the centerpiece of public attention. Following a chaotic string of rural confrontations and an explosive argument inside a barn, Chabela and Lorenzo finally confront their repressed romantic feelings. They reconcile, share a passionate embrace, and perform the traditional folk song "La Barca de Oro" together before happily marrying. Years later, their peaceful domestic life comes full circle when Chabela gives birth to a baby daughter who grows up inheriting her mother's identical features and fiery, free-spirited tomboy personality.
