Dilophus stygius is een muggensoort uit de familie van de zwarte vliegen (Bibionidae).Hardy, in Stone et al., 1965, Catalog of the Diptera of America north of Mexico, p. 196. Said to be a junior homonym of Dilophus stygius Say 1829, but no reference to this name yet found. De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1832 door Say.
